Write your overall opinion on your thoughts of this scenario

This was a very interesting read for me. I don’t think I have ever seen a situation where the nurse told the resident that they would have to take their patient to CT and they did. The fact that the resident was willing to take the patient to CT and administer the meds leads me to believe that she really cared. The situation that this resident encountered is all too familiar to a nurse. The patient needed to go to CT, staffing issues make this difficult, the patient arrived at CT 5 or 6 hours late, having to re-dose the patient. Honestly, I don’t think a lot of other physicians would have even done this. She got put into a position she wasn’t anticipating and made a mistake, but it wasn’t the end of the world.

It must have felt terrible for both the resident and the mother. The mother was probably under an enormous amount of stress due to her son’s condition, adding an error like this would only make it worse. The resident felt terrible because she would be concerned about harming her patient, and also looking completely incompetent. I think it was honorable of the resident to speak with the mom the way she did, many people won’t own up to their mistakes because of the fear of humiliation. The fact that the mother told the resident that she wanted her as the doctor speaks volumes about the trust she placed in her, she knew she cared.
